Substitute Teachers for PS-8th Grade

Princeton Friends School, a small, progressive PS-8th grade, Quaker school located in Princeton, NJ, seeks substitute teachers for all grade levels. The successful candidate should enjoy working with children; be reliable; possess strong classroom management and communication skills. Experience with teaching children is preferred.

Summer Camp Employment

Princeton Friends Summer Camp is seeking to fill its 2026 summer season with a staff of dedicated, hard-working, compassionate, and energetic individuals who are comfortable spending many hours outdoors leading games, building in the woods, supervising swim times, and creating a memorable and enjoyable summer experience for our campers!  Above all, we look to our staff to embody the SPICES - Quaker values that we hold at the heart of each activity.  Those values are: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship.

At this time, applications are open for Unit Directors, Assistant Counselors, Floaters, Specialty Counselors, and Counselors in Training.  See below for job descriptions of each.  Please note that Unit Directors must be 18 years of age or older.

Unit Director:

Unit Directors are assigned to a single unit of campers for the duration of the summer and are responsible for overseeing and directing its management throughout the day.  This counselor is the unit’s primary contact with camper families and will relay any important information at drop-off and pick-up times. Unit Directors come with a sense of responsibility, compassion, and enthusiasm for working with campers to make Princeton Friends Summer Camp a safe and joyous place grounded in the SPICES.  Unit Directors are called upon to demonstrate strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills, and a willingness to be silly.  Unit Directors are also expected to:

  • Be responsible for the safety, supervision, and programming of a specific unit of camp.
  • Create daily schedules, lead games and activities, delegate tasks to assistant counselors, floating counselors, and counselors in training as needed.
  • Supervise campers during swim times, including from within the pool.
  • Communicate important information with families during pick-up and drop-off.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Execute additional tasks as given by the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Directors as needed.
 
Assistant Counselor:

Assistant Counselors are typically assigned to a single unit of campers for the duration of the summer and are responsible for supporting the Unit Director’s management throughout the day.  This counselor is relied on to engage campers in developmentally-appropriate activities and games, bring an energetic spirit to the day, carry out tasks as assigned by the Unit Director, and ensure play is both joyous and follows the safety procedures of the camp.  Assistant Counselors should come ready to collaborate, support the decisions and management of others, be silly and optimistic, and foster a safe and fun camp environment grounded in the SPICES.  Assistant Counselors are also expected to:

  • Be responsible for assisting with the safety, supervision, and programming of a specific unit of camp.
  • Support the Unit Director in executing daily schedules and leading games and activities.
  • Supervise campers during swim time, include from within the pool.
  • Foster fun and caring environments for campers grounded in the SPICES.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Execute tasks as given by the Unit Director, Camp Director, and Assistant Camp Directors.
 
Floating Counselor:

Floating Counselors are strongly relied on for their flexibility, ability to adapt to new situations, and their innate leadership and decision-making skills.  These counselors are called on to fill in for Unit Directors and Assistant Counselors in the event of absence.  As such, Floating Counselors spend time with a wide range of units throughout their summer and must come prepared to swap between roles of leadership (Unit Director) and roles of support (Assistant Counselor) at a moment’s notice.  When not filling in for other counselors, Floating Counselors spend time engaging with units as fits the need of the Unit Directors.  Floating Counselors are also expected to:

  • Be responsible for replacing Unit Directors and Assistant Counselors in the event of absence (see responsibilities for each above).
  • Float between units to provide support and supervision as needed.
  • Support the Unit Director in executing daily schedules and leading games and activities.
  • Supervise campers during swim time, including from within the pool.
  • Foster fun and caring environments grounded in the SPICES.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Execute tasks as given by the Unit Director, Camp Director, and Assistant Camp Directors.

 

Specialty Counselor:

Outside of the typical camp experience comes three additional, unique options for campers to sign up for: Art Camp, Drama Camp, and Kungaloosh Camp.  Each of these operates as a subsection of our regular camp and comes with their own daily agendas and content with which to engage.  Each camp is headed by a Specialty Counselor who is responsible for creating, planning, organizing, and implementing weekly activities as fits that camp’s description.  These counselors oversee the management of materials and personnel needed to execute the weekly activities and projects.  Specialty Counselors are also expected to:

  • Create, organize, and implement weekly content as fits the week’s theme and the particular section of camp (i.e. Art Camp, Drama Camp, Kungaloosh Camp).
  • Create daily schedules, lead games and activities, delegate tasks to assistant counselors, floating counselors, and counselors in training as needed.
  • Supervise campers during swim time, including from within the pool.
  • Communicate important information with families during pick-up and drop-off.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Execute tasks as given by the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Directors.

 

Counselor in Training (CIT):

Counselors in Training are unpaid volunteers entering 9th grade in September 2025 who are interested in donating their time to assist with the day-to-day tasks of camp in exchange for a summer of first-hand experience.  During the summer, our CITs will learn to collaborate with other counselors, support the management of Unit Directors and Assistant Counselors, assist with leading games and activities, and overall bring the magic of camp to life.  CITs are also expected to:

  • Make camp a fun place to be, helping with activities, games, and daily routines.
  • Set a good example for the children at all times (clothing, language, attitude and respect).
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp property, and facilities.
  • Help provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for campers.
  • Supervise campers during swim time, including from within the pool.
  • Speak to children, families, other staff members cheerfully and politely.
  • Assist and execute directions from Unit Director.
