Substitute Teacher Position

Join our team as a substitute teacher!

Princeton Friends School, a small, progressive PS-8th grade, Quaker school located in Princeton, NJ, seeks substitute teachers for all grade levels. The successful candidate should enjoy working with children; be reliable; possess strong classroom management and communication skills. Experience with teaching children is preferred.

Set on a historic, wooded property, Princeton Friends School offers to pre-Kindergarteners to eighth graders a child-centered, joyful, progressive, and vigorous education and community life, richly infused with the Quaker values of integrity, respect for all, and taking action in the world. Well-prepared for the secondary schools they choose to attend, Princeton Friends School graduates are known for being independent thinkers, self-confident, and generous of spirit. The professional community is highly collaborative, with ample opportunities for professional development and creativity.

Why You’ll Love Substitute Teaching Here:

  • You’ll teach in a school that takes childhood seriously. We believe strong childhoods are the foundation of extraordinary outcomes. That means time for play, inquiry, reflection, and deep thinking without sacrificing academic excellence or high expectations.
  • Progressive education here is intentional and rigorous. You’ll design learning that is interdisciplinary, developmentally responsive, and intellectually rich, with space for curiosity, struggle, revision, and pride in high-quality work.
  • Mixed-age learning is a strength, not a challenge. You’ll work in a community that values multi-year relationships, differentiation, and peer learning where children learn with and from one another, and teachers are trusted as thoughtful designers of learning.
  • You’ll be deeply supported by colleagues. Collaboration is real here. Teachers plan together, reflect together, and problem-solve together—across grade levels and disciplines—within a small, caring, and committed faculty.
  • Equity and belonging are lived, not layered on. Anti-racist practice, identity-affirming curriculum, and community care are woven into daily classroom life, professional learning, and school culture.
  • Nature is part of the curriculum. Our campus and surrounding woods are classrooms. You’ll teach outdoors in all seasons, using the natural world to spark wonder, resilience, and meaningful academic work.
  • Your voice matters. Teachers at Princeton Friends School are trusted professionals. You’ll have agency, space to grow, and opportunities to shape curriculum, school traditions, and the life of the community.
  • You’ll know your students—and be known. Small class sizes and a relationship-centered culture mean you can teach with depth, care, and joy, and see the long arc of children’s growth.
